Sémillon rarely takes the lead on its own, which makes this bottling from Tenuta Principe Alberico in Lazio worth pausing over. The 2020 is entirely Sémillon, drawn from a small hillside planting and vinified across several vessels: stainless steel for freshness, larger botti and barrique for shape, though the oak is neutral and the wine never tastes wooded. What it does taste like is texture, a golden white built for the table rather than the aperitif hour.
The nose leans toward crushed hazelnut and raw almond, baked apple and pear, with a savory edge of saffron and warm candle wax. On the palate it turns almost oily, coating and glossy, carrying white pit fruit and a touch of vanilla bean before honeycomb sweetness rounds things out. A firm mineral line keeps all that richness upright, and the finish is long and quietly powerful, the nutty notes fading slowly.

The 2020 Bianco Alberico opens with crushed hazelnuts, a whiff of custard, baked apples and pears. Seamless, nearly oily textures host white pit fruits and vanilla bean with stern minerality to balance. It finishes with amazing length and potency as hints of raw almond slowly fade. The textures here are amazing, especially considering that it was refined entirely in neutral oak barrels. (Vinous, June 2026)
A production of 5,500 numbered bottles, the Tenuta Principe Alberico 2020 Alberico Bianco is all Sémillon from Lazio. Grapes come from a bilateral cordon vineyard that measures 3.5 hectares, with 4,625 plants per hectare. Winemaking sees stainless steel, botte grande and barrique. It reveals a golden color and offers opulent aromas of candle, saffron, paraffin wax and ripe apricot. It is texturally rich with a glossy finish and pretty honeycomb-like flavors.
