A red blend from Priorat, the rugged Catalan region in northeastern Spain where Garnacha and Cariñena ripen on steep terraced slopes, this 2024 bottling from Alvaro Palacios serves as an accessible entry into the area's dense, mineral style. Priorat reds are known for their concentration and firm structure, and this one aims to show that character in a younger, more approachable register meant to be enjoyed without years of waiting.
The expect to start bottling the 2024 Camins del Priorat in July 2025. The regional blend is produced with a slightly different blend, depending on the character of the year. In the cooler 2024, the blend is 40% Garnacha, 20% Cariñena, 20% Syrah (much higher in Syrah), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot (lower in the Bordeaux varieties) and 5% of white grapes, Garnacha Blanca, Picapoll Blanc and Pedro Ximenez. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, oak and concrete, with 28 days of maceration, and matured in barriques and oak vats for four months. It has a deep purple color and a very balsamic and minty nose, with hints of resin and violets (the Syrah?). It's juicy and velvety, with finesse and drinkability, textured and fruit driven. It feels a little more oxidative, but with unbottled samples, it's always a bit difficult to tell. They expect around 175,000 bottles. (Wine Advocate, May 2025)
Aromas of black olives and rich dark cherries with brambly and meaty undertones. Fruity and juicy, with a solid fruit core on the mid-palate, which is fleshy, medium-bodied and nicely chewy. A dark, solid, fruity wine. Drink now. (James Suckling, July 2025)
