Antoine Sunier's 2022 Montmerond is a Gamay from Régnié, the smallest and most granite-rich of Beaujolais's ten crus. The wine comes from fifty-year-old vines and spent two weeks in maceration before a year in used barrels, a commitment to extraction and structure that sets it apart from lighter Beaujolais expressions.
The nose is mineral-driven, with crushed stone threading through bright raspberry and strawberry fruit. On the palate, the wine shows real tension on entry, with a rocky character that persists through the finish. This is a Gamay with backbone and distinctive personality, one that rewards attention and pairs well with food rather than simply filling a glass.

The 2022 Régnié Montmerond comes from 50-year-old vines grown on shallow granitic soils. It underwent a two-week maceration followed by 12 months of aging in used barrels. It has a focused bouquet, quite mineral-driven with crushed stone percolating through the pretty raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is tensile on the entry with rocky detritus that seems to shape the finish. Very distinctive.
