Mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa carries a different weight than its valley-floor counterparts, and this bottling from Ashes & Diamonds draws its fruit from a west-facing site high on Diamond Mountain. The 2023 vintage was raised in a mix of new French and Austrian oak, with a substantial share of older French barrels tempering the influence, so the wood frames the fruit rather than dominating it.
The aromatics run toward blueberry and black cherry, with darker currant notes and savory hints of bay leaf, tobacco, and leather alongside a touch of vanilla. On the palate it lands somewhere between broad and focused, full-bodied but balanced, with tannins that are firm and ripe yet silky enough to roll into a long, softly dusty finish. There's a Bordeaux-like seriousness to its spice and herbal edges, and a few years in the cellar will only bring it further into line.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard II No. 2 comes from a west-facing site high on Diamond Mountain. Aged in a mix of new French (28%) and Austrian oak (14%), plus a substantial proportion of older French oak, it offers up scents of blueberries and black cherries, plus hints of bay leaf and vanilla. It's full-bodied, broad and expansive on the palate, framed by silky tannins that roll easily into a long, softly dusty finish. It's a super value in mountain-grown Napa Cabernet. (Wine Advocate, October 2025)
Beautiful, with Bordeaux-like vibes in its darker currants, spicy wood, leather, and tobacco-laced, herbal nuances, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard II No. 2 is medium-bodied and focused, with firm yet ripe tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. It's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink 2027-2043. (Jeb Dunnuck, December 2025)
