Syrah from Crozes-Hermitage in the Northern Rhône, made by Graeme and Julie Bott, a couple who turned out their first vintage in 2018 and work from a base in Ampuis. This 2022 was fully destemmed and raised eleven months in French oak, part of a house approach that favors native fermentations and mostly used barrels, aiming for purity and texture without heavy polish.
The nose leans into ripe plum and cassis, edged with cracked pepper, dried herbs, and a floral, potpourri lift that marks good Northern Rhône Syrah. The palate is round and fruit-forward, generous without tipping into weight, and it carries real balance from front to a long, persistent finish. Approachable now, with the structure to hold and develop over the next several years.

Ripe plums, cassis, peppery herbs, and potpourri notes define the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage, which was completely destemmed and spent 11 months in French oak. It's nicely balanced, with a round, fruit-loaded, yet balanced mouthfeel and outstanding length. Drink 2025-2033. One of the most exciting young domaines in the Northern Rhône, Graeme and Julie Bott produced their first vintage in 2018 and are based in Ampuis. They farm parcels across Condrieu, Saint Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Côte Rôtie, and Cornas, working with native fermentations, a mix of destemming and whole cluster, and élevage in mostly used French oak. The wines show impeccable balance, purity, and texture, offering a slightly polished, pure style while staying true to their Rhône roots. The 2022s are beautiful, and the 2023s, particularly the whites, continue to impress. (Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025)
