Seyssuel sits at the northern edge of the Rhône's Syrah country, a hillside zone just outside the appellation boundaries that bottles its reds under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes. This is the KAMAKA cuvée from Bott, a 2021 Syrah made in that cooler, savory northern idiom where the grape leans as much toward pepper and cured meat as toward fruit.
The color is deep and glinting, almost purple, and the nose opens bright and floral on red and blue fruit before turning toward olive, bacon fat, and cracked black pepper as it airs. The palate is generous and juicy, all sweet cherry and blueberry laced with spicecake, allspice, and licorice, with a smoky mineral undertow. It closes long and still youthfully chewy, the tannins gripping and the spice ringing on well after the fruit.

Dark, shimmering purple. Bright and energetic on the perfumed nose, displaying primary red and blue fruit and floral aromas that take on olive, bacon fat and black pepper notes as the wine stretches out. In a juicy, fruit-driven style, offering appealingly sweet cherry, blueberry and spicecake flavors and suggestions of allspice, licorice and smoky minerals. Finishes very long and youthfully chewy, with gripping tannins and resonating spiciness. (Vinous, December 2022)
