A high-rye bourbon from Kentucky, Bulleit is made with a mash bill that leans toward rye grain, giving it a spicier profile than many of its peers. The spirit is aged in new charred oak barrels, a requirement for all straight bourbon, and bottled at 90 proof.
The high rye content shows itself in the glass with a peppery, herbal character layered alongside vanilla and oak. It's assertive enough to anchor a cocktail, a Manhattan or Old Fashioned will bring out those spice notes, but smooth enough to sip neat or on ice. A straightforward, accessible bourbon that works equally well in a mixing glass or a rocks glass.
