Nebbiolo grown in the Barolo zone of Piedmont, bottled here by Casa E. di Mirafiore as a 2015 Riserva, which means it spent longer aging before release than a standard Barolo. Nebbiolo is a grape known for pairing pale color with real structure, its firm tannins and bright acidity built to reward patience.
Showing a lean garnet color, the Casa E. di Mirafiore 2015 Barolo Riserva (with 6,000 bottles produced) has one foot in fruit intensity and the other in a more tertiary or aged state. The 2015 vintage is evolving quickly at this moment, whether the wine was held as a Riserva or not. The growing season saw sunny and warm conditions, and that evolution is perhaps a cautionary tale for another hot vintage, the 2017, hitting the market now. This wine opens to a fine texture, with dried cherry, tar and smoky resin on the close. (Wine Advocate, June 2021)
