Description

Brunello is Sangiovese grown on the hills around Montalcino in southern Tuscany, and aged long enough in cask to soften its considerable structure into something more contemplative. This 2021 from Casanova di Neri is the estate's village-level expression, drawn across multiple sites and raised for 42 months in large oak, a warm but not scorching growing season tempered by timely rain and a harvest that fell right on schedule. Deep ruby in the glass, it reads as classic Montalcino: firm but approachable, built for the table.

Expect black raspberry and dark cherry lifted by violets and dusty florals, with fresh earth, licorice, rosemary, and a twist of blood orange rounding out the aromatics. The palate is medium to full, more vertical and energetic than warmer vintages, with a bright spine of acidity, well-defined tannins, and a glossy, polished texture. Ripe wild berry fruit builds slowly across the palate, and the finish runs long and focused, spiced with clove and citrus yet light on its feet. It drinks well now with air and has the freshness to reward patience.

The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino comes from a warm but not extreme growing season, helped by timely rain and a normal harvest window. It pours a deep ruby red hue and opens with black raspberries, violets, fresh earth, licorice, and rosemary. Medium to full-bodied, it feels more vertical and energetic than the 2020, with a bright spine of acidity, well-defined tannins, and a long, focused finish that stays light on its feet. Drink 2026-2040. (Jeb Dunnuck, February 2026)

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, mixing dusty rose and lavender with shavings of blood orange and black cherries. It is surprisingly juicy yet elegant and refined, as ripe wild berry fruits slowly drench the palate in primary concentration. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 finishes spicy and intense with nuances of citrus, clove and licorice. The complexity here is off the charts and the energy is incredible. The Casanova di Neri 2021 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit flavors of plum and soft berry. A glossy texture lends polish and shine to the mouthfeel, while the wine delivers medium-lean weight and moderate length with good brightness and freshness. Aging sees 42 months in large oak casks. This bottling represents the estate’s classic, multi-vineyard village expression, designed to balance consistency, accessibility and regional typicity. Production totals 94,800 bottles.
