High-altitude Chardonnay from the Tupungato area of Mendoza, where cool nights and elevation keep white wines lively, this is the Catena Alta bottling from Bodegas Catena Zapata, vintage 2024. About a fifth of the wine sees new oak, just enough to frame the fruit without taking it over, and the style here leans toward refinement, with noticeably less weight than the producer has shown in past years.
Expect soft herbs, pear and apple on the nose, threaded with apricot, peach crumble, grilled lemon and a touch of whipped butter. The palate is creamy but fresh, ripe and full without turning heavy, and the finish lingers with a smooth, caressing quality. Enjoyable now, with the structure to hold.
