Description

A white blend built on Sémillon and Chenin Blanc is an uncommon pairing in Argentina, where reds dominate the conversation, and that pairing is the heart of this 2025 from Bodegas Catena Zapata. It comes from Lujan de Cuyo, the higher, cooler stretch of Mendoza where altitude keeps white grapes taut, and the wine is finished bone-dry in a style that leans toward elegance rather than weight.

Expect lemon and orchard fruit (quince, apple skin) with white flowers and chamomile on the nose, and a current of acidity that runs nervy and bright through a creamy, supple texture. There is a faintly steely edge alongside almond, vanilla and beeswax richness, with oak adding a touch of spice and frame. Concentrated and firmly structured, it drinks well now and has the balance to develop over the next several years.

James Suckling

Lemons and stone with a lightly steely and creamy edge. Really bright and nervy, with a bone-dry, elegant finish. 60% semillon and 40% chenin blanc. This should age well. Drink from 2026.

Generous and oak-framed, with acacia, vanilla and spice layered over quince, lemon and apple skin. Supple and rounded with ripe yellow fruit, beeswax richness and firm structure. Concentrated and bold.
