Cayuse Vineyards' 2022 Armada Vineyard Syrah comes from Walla Walla Valley in Washington, a region that has established itself for structured, fruit-driven red wines. This bottling skews toward the riper, more voluptuous side of the Syrah spectrum.
The wine opens with crushed raspberries and blueberries, framed by clove and cedary spice. There's a silken texture to it, with ripe wild berry fruit swirling beneath violet florals, and the finish stretches long and perfumed with subtle tannins and a lingering lavender note. The overall impression is soothingly round, cooling to the palate, and best laid down for a few years before opening.

More fruit-centric than the surrounding single vineyards, the 2022 Syrah Armada Vineyard opens with an array of crushed raspberries and blueberries complemented by nuances of clove and cedary spice. It is soothingly round and cooling to the senses, with silken waves of ripe wild berry fruits swirling beneath an air of violet inner florals. The 2022 tapers off long and perfumed, with subtle tannins and an air of lavender lingering on.
Planted in 2001 to 6 x 4 spacing and cultivated using biodynamic farming methods since 2002, the 2022 Syrah Armada Vineyard is tightly wound, with a lot of inherent tension. Red and black berry eke their way out of the powerful core of darkness and intensity, with a balsamic note threading its way through close behind. Drinking window 2028-2038. (Jeb Dunnuck, July 2025)
