Château Barde-Haut's 2010 Saint-Emilion is a Bordeaux blend built on 90 percent Merlot with 10 percent Cabernet Franc, sourced from the Right Bank's classic terroir. This is a wine entering its prime drinking window after more than a decade of bottle age.
The nose shows ripe black cherries and darker currants alongside earthy nuances of truffle and smoky tobacco. On the palate, the wine is plush and dense, with flavors of black raspberry, blueberry, and licorice layered over dusty, loamy soil notes. The tannins are sweet and fine-grained, giving the wine an elegant structure without roughness, while good acidity provides delineation and freshness. There's considerable richness and depth here, yet the wine balances richness with restraint, offering pleasure now while built to hold gracefully for another decade or more.

Good red-ruby. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, singed plum and mocha, complicated by a sexy leesy quality. Plush, dense and creamy, with excellent depth and no rough edges to the black raspberry, blueberry and licorice flavors. Serious but sweet tannins coat the front teeth. This very persistent wine has the balance to give early pleasure but should hold nicely for 10 to 15 years.
Loads of blueberry, black cherry and dusty, loamy soil notes as well as hints of herbs, licorice and incense jump from the glass of this well-endowed, supple wine. Tannins are sweet and the acidity sufficient to give delineation to the wine. Full-bodied and impressively endowed, it should drink well over the next 10-15 years. The 2010 Barde-Haut is a delicious, seductive style of St.-Emilion made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Proprietress Helene Garcin-Leveque purchased the estate in 2000 and has been pushing quality ever since.
