Description
Château Brane-Cantenac is a second growth in Margaux, the most elegant subregion of Bordeaux, known for silken textures and floral perfume. This 2009 is a Bordeaux blend, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 70 percent new oak. The wine shows a dark ruby and purple robe and carries modest alcohol at 13.4 percent, a mark of restraint.
The nose is generous and layered, opening with blackberry, raspberry, and crushed stone, moving into cedar and mint. On the palate, there's immediate freshness and energy, with concentrated blackcurrant and blackberry fruit flanked by soft smoky oak. The tannins are fine and supple, the structure taut enough to give the wine presence without weight, and a mineral, graphite-tinged finish extends for considerable length. This wine exemplifies Margaux's trademark balance between richness and elegance. It's approachable now, silky and suave in its youth, but has the architecture and concentration to age gracefully for two decades or more.

A spectacular effort from this estate rivaling their 2005, but more flashy/flamboyant, this dark ruby/purple wine has a strikingly intense nose of licorice, flowers, plums and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, very approachable and silky, this suave, very sexy wine can be drunk early on as well as aged for 20+ years.
Plenty of Margaux balance and effortless elegance here, showcasing a concentrated blackcurrant and blackberry fruit character. Soft smoky oak comes in on the finish, with fine tannins and gentle floral aromatics. Only 37% of the production make it into the 1st wine, aged in 70% new oak. The vineyard here lies across a gravel outcrop, with certain sections that are sandy-gravel, with the 1st wine invariably Cabernet Sauvignon dominant.
The 2009 Brane-Cantenac was picked from September 22 to October 9 with a modest 13.4° alcohol. This has long been a great Margaux. It is very delineated and yet very generous on the bravura bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone, cedar and a touch of mint. The palate is fresh and bursting with energy right from the start. There is plenty of weight and presence here, but that tension binds this Brane-Cantenac together.
