On the outer edges of the Saint-Émilion satellites, in the Puisseguin appellation of Bordeaux's right bank, sits this Merlot-led red from Château Clarisse. The 2019 is a right-bank blend in the classic mold, built around plush dark fruit but kept lively and medium-bodied, an approachable style meant to drink well in its first several years rather than one that asks for a long wait.
The nose opens floral and aromatic, almost like potpourri, then leans into inky dark fruit shaded by espresso, chocolate and lavender. There is real density here, but it never turns heavy: bright strawberry and red cherry carry the palate, with soft but present tannins adding just enough weight and texture. Traces of spice and cedar round out the edges, and the finish comes through fresh and minty, energetic and harmonious. A wine of genuine depth and personality that stays easy to enjoy.

Floral element to the nose, a bit like potpourri - nicely aromatic. This has great freshness, showing bright, juicy strawberry and red cherry, with soft but present tannins that give a little weight and texture. Not a showstopper but energetic, approachable and easy to drink. Pretty, harmonious and with a minty fresh finish. (Decanter, January 2022)
