Château Doisy Daëne's 2016 Barsac is a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from one of Bordeaux's most prestigious sweet-wine appellations. This half-bottle captures the essence of botrytized fruit in a format ideal for exploring the style without commitment to a full 750ml.
The wine opens with honeycomb and lanolin aromas alongside mineral notes of crushed rock and light floral hints, which grow more complex with air. On the palate, it balances intense sweet fruit, apricot, peach, and tropical notes of pineapple and passion fruit, against a sharp vein of acidity that keeps everything poised and elegant. The mouthfeel is fleshy and rich without heaviness, with orange-marmalade character and earthy, savory undertones that add depth. The finish is impressive, long, and lively. This is a wine that rewards sitting in the glass as it opens, though it's approachable now and will age gracefully.

The first bottle of 2016 Doisy-Daëne was corked. The second is clean and precise on the nose, offering honeycomb, lanolin, crushed rocks and light yellow flower aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, and a fine bead of acidity cuts through the intense botrytized fruit. Very harmonious and poised, with impressive intensity on the finish. This is a marvelous Sauternes. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Thereâs a wealth of rich, ripe apricots and sweetly fragrant peaches here, as well as a gently tropical edge. The palate is fleshy and richly sweet and offers smooth orange-marmalade flavors. Striking elegance and length here. A blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc. Drink or hold.
Pale lemon in color, the 2016 Doisy Daëne leaps from the glass with flamboyant tropical fruit notions of warm pineapple, guava and passion fruit plus hints of lime cordial, fungi, musk perfume and chalk dust. The palate has loads of earthy/savory layers with great concentration and depth, finishing long and lively.
