Provence sets the standard for dry, pale rosé, and this bottling from Chateau du Galoupet, in the Cotes de Provence, shows what the region can do when the vineyard work is taken seriously. The 2022 is the second commercial vintage under the estate's current ownership, made after substantial effort in the vines, and it carries the mark of a warmer, drier growing season: a rosé with more structure and concentration than the year before. Lees ageing and a measured touch of oak give it a depth you don't always find in this style.
The first impression is rich and almost pastry-like, creamy brioche and yellow peach edged with a note of white chocolate. The palate keeps that ripeness, white peach at the center with sweet strawberry and red currant peeking around the edges, then opens into violets, menthol, and a dry herbal garrigue lift. Underneath runs a dark mineral core that finishes with a saline, savory pull. Smooth and silky, with real concentration, and recognizably fresh Provence through and through.

The second commercial vintage since LVMH took over the estate following considerable work in the vineyards. Even taking into account that 2022 was a hotter, drier vintage, this rosé is more structured and concentrated than the 2021. Creamy brioche, yellow peach and white chocolate aromas from lees ageing and a small amount of oak launch the rich fruit. On the palate, sweet ripe strawberries and red currants peep around the edges of the white peach fruit, while violets, menthol and garrigue open out around a dark mineral core and saline austerity on the finish. Smooth and silky with lots of depth and concentration. Classic, fresh Provence.
