The second white of Château Malartic Lagravière, a Pessac-Léognan estate in Bordeaux, this 2019 bottling was previously known as La Réserve de Malartic Blanc. White Bordeaux from this appellation tends to marry the cut of Sauvignon Blanc with the weight of Sémillon, and the aim here is freshness kept in balance rather than opulence.
Aromatically it opens quietly, then rewards a little patience in the glass, unfolding scents of Granny Smith apple, lime, and a whiff of wet stone after rain. The palate is taut and linear, carried by a fine thread of acidity, with a suggestion of pineapple arriving toward the finish. It has the freshness to drink well over the coming decade.

The 2019 Le Comte de Malartic (hitherto La Réserve de Malartic Blanc) offers Granny Smith apples, lime and petrichor scents on the nose, neutral at first but gaining more personality with aeration. The palate is well balanced and fresh, with a fine bead of acidity and a touch of pineapple toward the finish. Taut and linear, this will drink well for the next decade. (Vinous, February 2022)
