A Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that leans on classic proportions rather than sheer weight, this 2023 from Clos Du Val is built mostly on Cabernet (about 75%) with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot rounding out the blend. It reads as a serious appellation wine, medium-bodied and cleanly assembled, the kind of Napa Cabernet that shows what a house can do at the approachable end of its range without cutting corners.
The fruit runs toward cassis, blue fruit, and black cherry, with darker berry tones layered over tobacco, graphite, and a touch of savory herb. Brown spice, new leather, and a whisper of toasty oak sit neatly integrated rather than showing off, and there's a floral lift (think rose petal) on the nose. Tannins are firm but fine-grained and ripe, giving it structure that carries through to a long finish dusted with cocoa powder. Balanced and pure, drinking well now and holding through the coming years.

Such a fine, classic, easy-drinking, beautifully knit wine in 2023. It hits all the right marks for excellent purity of fruit and mineral complexity. Fragrant brown spices and toasty oak are seamlessly integrated, while blue fruit and black cherry abound on the palate, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and a lasting cocoa-powder finish. (Decanter, March 2026)
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a fabulous entry-level offering in this range. Bright, aromatic and punchy, the 2023 is seriously beautiful from start to finish. Rose petal, spice and new leather meld into a core of dark red/purplish fruit. There's a good bit of tannin, making this a pretty serious appellation wine. (Vinous, November 2025)
Based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon offers wonderfully pure cassis and darker berries intermixed with tobacco, graphite, and some savory herb nuances. It's medium-bodied and nicely concentrated, with ripe tannins and good overall balance. This smoking value represents impeccably made, satisfying, balanced Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink 2026-2033. (Jeb Dunnuck, December 2025)
