Nebbiolo grown in the Barolo zone of Piedmont, bottled here by Mario Cordero as a 2020 wearing the Barolo DOCG. This is the classic Piemontese red done in a lighter, more approachable register, the kind of Barolo that shows its perfume early rather than locking everything behind tannin.
Expect a fragrant, open style built on sweet dried cherry, with dried herbs, spice, cedar, and pipe tobacco threading through. There is a savory edge too, mint and dried leaves lending complexity to the nose. Delicate on the palate and already welcoming, this leans forward and drinks beautifully now rather than asking for years of patience.
The 2020 Barolo Valentino is a very pretty, open-knit offering from Mario Cordero. Sweet dried cherry, dried herbs, spice, cedar, pipe tobacco, mint and dried leaves all run through this perfumed, delicate Barolo. The 2020 is quite attractive. Slightly forward, open-knit aromatics suggest it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. (Vinous)
