Chardonnay grown in the southern reaches of Burgundy takes on a rounder, sun-touched character than its cooler northern cousins, and this bottling from Daniel Barraud draws on old vines in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The 2024 is a still white from the Mâconnais, where Chardonnay tends toward ripe orchard fruit and a supple texture framed by fresh acidity.

The 2024 Pouilly-Fuissé “Alliance” Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 40- to 60-year-old vines and was raised across stainless steel, barrels and demi-muids. Orange blossom and verbena lead before the wine moves into a warmer register of apricot, honey and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, it has a glossy viscosity, while a light saline seasoning provides pleasant contrast. Broad and horizontal in shape, it is built on perfume, fruit and ample acidity, finishing with a gentle, fade of moderate length. (Wine Advocate, September 2026)
