Premier Cru bottlings from Nuits-Saint-Georges tend toward a firmer, more structured expression of red Burgundy, and this 2022 from Domaine de la Commaraine draws on the Roncière vineyard for exactly that. It is Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits, a wine built on the darker, more savory side of the grape, with the tannic backbone that lets village and premier cru reds from this commune reward a few years of patience.

This half-hectare parcel, acquired in 2020, has put in a persuasive performance with the 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières, opening in the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries, vine smoke, licorice and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and concentrated palate that's lively and complete. (Wine Advocate, January 2024)
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Roncière 1er Cru seems to carry the 50% new oak better than the Bousselottes, offering a mélange of red and black fruit, a light oyster shell influence in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe red berry fruit, veins of blood orange and a tang of marmalade leading to a slightly savory finish that lingers in the mouth. Afford this three or four years in bottle. (NM). (Vinous, October 2023)
