Domaine de Pallus's Les Pensées de Pallus is a Chinon from the 2017 vintage, made from Cabernet Franc grown on the sandy limestone slopes of Cravant-les-Côteaux. This is the producer's top expression of the appellation.
The wine opens with a pure, fragrant bouquet of ripe blackberries and cassis alongside red cherry, with mineral and floral notes threading through. On the palate it's silky and vital, full-bodied yet refined, with an intensity that feels both juicy and tightly wound. Red cherries and violet emerge in the midpalate alongside finely textured tannins that offer density without heaviness. The wine balances the sand and limestone of its terroir, arriving as a nervy, stimulating expression of Chinon that's best enjoyed now.

From the very best plots of the sandy limestone slopes in Cravant-les-Côteaux, the 2017 Chinon Les Pensées de Pallus offers a pure, fresh, fragrant and intense bouquet of ripe and concentrated as well as spicy red and dark berries (most of all blackberries and cassis but also cherries) and earthy, mineral and floral aromas. Silky textured, fresh and vital on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy but also straight and tight Cabernet Franc with an intense and elegant, fruity texture that represents both layers of the terroir: sand and tuff limestone. This is an excellent, nervy and stimulating Chinon from Bertrand Sourdais. 30,000 bottles produced. Tasted in June 2021.
The 2017 Chinon Les Pensées de Pallus is refined and light-bodied, creating a harmonious package. Red cherries and violets are wrapped up in the silky midpalate, which offers density without weight and very finely textured tannins.
