Pinot Noir from Nuits-Saint-Georges tends toward the firmer, more structured end of red Burgundy, and this Premier Cru bottling from Domaine Henri Gouges comes from the Clos des Porrets holding in that commune. A 2021 from the Côte de Nuits, it speaks the local dialect of the grape: dark-fruited, savory, and built with the kind of tannic frame that rewards a little patience.

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a very pure and focused bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry, subtle floral elements and a touch of sea spray. This is complex in the context of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins, a hint of dark chocolate combining neatly with the mulberry fruit on the finish. Nice tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed. Sublime. Drink 2024-2038. (Vinous, November 2022)
