Chassagne-Montrachet is far better known for its whites, but the appellation also yields red from Pinot Noir, and this bottling from Domaine Marc Morey & Fils works at the village level in that quieter register. The 2020 vintage comes from the heart of the Côte de Beaune, a village wine meant to show the commune's character without the concentration of a single named site.
The nose is fresh and finely drawn, blackberry and raspberry threaded with a saline, almost iodine note. On the palate it stays medium-bodied and lively, with crunchy red fruit and a gentle tug of tannin giving it shape. The finish softens just slightly rather than sharpening to a point, but this is a carefully made red Chassagne that rewards attention.

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge has a fresh, quite detailed bouquet with blackberry and raspberry scented mixed with a touch of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, gentle grip, perhaps just missing a little delineation towards the finish but otherwise, a very well-crafted red Chassagne. (Vinous, December 2021)
