E. Guigal's Côtes du Rhône Rouge is a Southern Rhône blend from one of the region's most respected producers. The 2022 vintage carries the house style: approachable, balanced, and made to drink with pleasure rather than ceremony.
The wine shows a peppery character with floral undertones and bright dark fruit at its core. There's a juicy, round quality to it, with savory depth and enough freshness to keep things lively on the palate. Raspberry, leafy herb notes, and subtle spice layer in as it opens, all held together by solid flavor concentration and a gentle, lingering finish. This is gourmand wine, sappy and satisfying, that drinks well now but has the balance to age gracefully.

The 2021 Côtes du Rhône results from a drastic selection, with production reduced to only 1.5 million bottles due to frost. Fresher and more peppery than the 2020, it delivers notes of flowers, iris and delicate fresh dark fruits. Juicy, round, savory and perfectly balanced, it’s gourmand and sappy, concluding with a long, gently ethereal finish.
One year of additional aging since I last tasted the 2021 Côtes du Rhône has benefitted it, adding more substance and refinement. Delicate raspberry, leafy subtleties, ivy and spicy nuances of moderate intensity come alive in the glass. Touching the palate with solid flavor concentration and balancing freshness, the 2021 can be enjoyed straight away.
