A Premier Cru bottling built largely on Chardonnay, with roughly equal splashes of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier rounding it out, this is Egly-Ouriet's expression of fruit from a south-facing, chalky site in Bisseuil. The base is the 2019 vintage, fleshed out with reserve wines from 2018 and 2017, all vinified in oak and finished with a barely-there dosage of one gram per liter. Champagne is made in the traditional method, with its bubbles earned through a second fermentation in the bottle, and here the low dosage lets the wine speak plainly.
It pours a bright silver-straw and opens on ripe pear, melon rind, baked apple, and citrus oil, threaded with bread crust, a savory hint of earth, and a saline edge. The first impression is airy and almost light, but give it time in the glass and it broadens, turning medium to full-bodied and concentrated while holding onto a racy, chalky cut. The mousse is fine, the fruit generous, and the finish long and precise. There is real dimension here, and patience will be rewarded.

This release of the NV Champagne Vignes De Bisseuil is based on 2019 but also includes 2018 and 2017. In the glass it pours a bright silver straw hue and offers savory, ripe aromas of pear, melon rind, fresh earth, and briny salinity, with bold character and ample ripeness. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a good deal of intensity and maybe even more fruity on the palate. It’s a savory wine with lovely richness, a refined mousse, and a long finish. Drink it over the coming 15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck, December 2024)
The NV (2019) Les Vignes de Bisseuil is superb. Baked apple tart, white flower, tangerine oil, slate and sage all race across the palate. Deceptive at first in its light-bodied, airy feel, the 2019 opens beautifully in the glass, revealing myriad shades of nuance and tons of finesse to match. I love this for its dimension, breadth and complexity. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: July 2024. (Vinous, March 2024)
A considerable step up from Les Prémices and Les Vignes de Vrigny in complexity and tension, Egly's 2019 vintage-based NV Les Vignes de Bisseuil includes reserve wines from 2018 and 2017 and was disgorged in October 2024 with one gram per liter dosage. Heavily based on Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, all vinified in oak, it derives from a south-facing site on chalky soils in Bisseuil. Wafting from the glass with aromas of fresh citrus fruit, bread crust and crisp pear, it is medium- to full-bodied and concentrated yet racy and fresh, with notable cut and a chalky profile, concluding with a long, precise finish. Just like Egly's grand cru bottlings, this too will richly reward patience. (Wine Advocate, May 2025)
