Chardonnay grown in the southern reaches of Burgundy takes on a rounder, sunnier shape than its counterparts further north, and this bottling from Famille Barraud (the Daniel Barraud estate) comes from Pouilly-Fuissé, the appellation that has long defined white Burgundy in the Mâconnais. The 2024 is a still, dry white, unmistakably Chardonnay, carrying the orchard-fruit warmth and gentle weight that the region is known for.

The 2024 Pouilly-Fuissé “Alliance” Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 40- to 60-year-old vines and was raised across stainless steel, barrels and demi-muids. Orange blossom and verbena lead before the wine moves into a warmer register of apricot, honey and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, it has a glossy viscosity, while a light saline seasoning provides pleasant contrast. Broad and horizontal in shape, it is built on perfume, fruit and ample acidity, finishing with a gentle, fade of moderate length. (Wine Advocate, September 2026)
