The appassimento method behind Amarone, drying the grapes for months before pressing to concentrate their sugars and flavors, gives these wines their density and warmth. This bottling from Farina, grown in the Classico heart of the Valpolicella zone in Veneto, comes from the 2017 vintage and shows the ripe, full-bodied style the appellation is known for.
The nose opens with crushed cherries, autumnal spice, and a dusty note of dried rose. On the palate it turns soft and round, layering tart red and blue fruits against a lift of blood orange and a saline, mineral edge. The finish is long and staining, closing on a pleasantly bitter twist of dark chocolate that holds for some time.

The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Montefante lifts from the glass with an inviting blend of crushed cherries and autumnal spices, complemented by dusty rose. It's soft textured and round, with depths of tart red and blue fruits offset by hints of blood orange and saline mineral tones. The 2017 finishes with staining length and a pleasantly bitter twang of dark chocolate that lingers on and on. (Vinous, February 2024)
