Description

A Rhône-leaning blend built on Syrah (56%), with Petite Sirah, Grenache, and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon rounding it out, this red from Fess Parker draws on fruit from Santa Barbara County. The 2021 takes its cue from Australia's big Syrah tradition, and it lands as one of the more generous, larger-scale bottlings this team produces.

The color alone signals intent, a vivid purple that gives way to black and blue fruit, cracked pepper, herbs, cured meat, and warm spice. There is succulent red fruit here too, with notes of plum, mint, and rose petal, and a lift of new American oak on the close. Medium to full in body, it leads with fruit but carries ripe tannins and a juicy line of acidity through a long, heady finish.

The 2021 Big Easy is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the finest editions I have tasted of Fess Parker's Grange-inspired wine. Succulent red-toned fruit, mint, plum, rose petal and a kiss of new American oak build into the heady, sumptuous finish. (Vinous)

One of the larger production releases from this team (the largest?), the 2021 Big Easy is based on 56% Syrah, 32% Petite Sirah, 10% Grenache, and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its vivid purple hue is followed by a rock-solid nose of pure black and blue fruits, pepper herbs, cured meats, and spice. This carries to a medium to full-bodied red that leads with its fruit yet has ripe tannins, a juicy spine of acidity, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck, August 2024)
