Bodegas Forlong's Amigo Imaginario is an unfortified white wine made from old-vine Palomino in AndalucĂa, aged for 18 months in used Oloroso barrels. The 2021 vintage brings skin contact into the mix, a technique that adds texture and complexity to what might otherwise be a lighter white.
The result is nutty and round, with peach notes lifting through the barrel influence. There's real substance here: fine tannins and a velvety mouthfeel, finished with a chalky minerality that keeps the wine from feeling heavy. The Oloroso wood shows more prominently than in earlier releases, giving the wine a character closer to young fortified Sherry than to a conventional still white. This is a wine that sits in the margins, and that's precisely where it becomes interesting.
The golden 2021 Amigo Imaginario is an unfortified skin-contact white from old vines matured in old Oloroso barrels for 18 months. It has nutty notes and hints of peach I had not noticed in previous vintages, more marked by the barrel and with more Sherry character this time. It's round and velvety, with some fine tannins and a chalky finish. More than ever, it's like a young Oloroso... 2,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2022.
