Nebbiolo grown in the Barolo zone of Piedmont, this 2021 comes from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, a house working within the traditional heart of the region. Barolo is built entirely from Nebbiolo, a grape prized for its perfume and its firm tannic frame, and this bottling shows the more open, accessible side of the current vintage rather than a wine that demands years of patience.
The nose leads with bright raspberry, lifted by lavender and a cool note of mint, with a subtle turn of pepper underneath. On the palate it feels approachable and polished, the tannins smoothed out and the fruit running in a clean, linear line. There is a real charm to its brightness, and it drinks well now.
This has a lovely bright nose of raspberries with lavender and a touch of mint. Subtle pepper as well. The palate is approachable with polished tannins, charming brightness and an attractive, linear and bright fruit profile. Drink now. (James Suckling)
