Glenelly Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2021 is a white wine from Stellenbosch, in South Africa's Western Cape. It comes from vines grown on alluvial soils and matured in large-format oak casks with restrained new oak influence, allowing the fruit and mineral character to lead.
Bright and expressive, this Chardonnay shows a voluminous frame with citrus blossom notes and fine mineral tension. The wine lands medium to full-bodied with impeccable weight and impressive acidity that carries through the mid-palate with freshness and grip. There's a tautness to the structure that suggests it will age well through the decade, though it's also approachable now and pairs naturally with food. The finish has a primal, mineral-driven quality that rewards patience.

The 2021 Chardonnay Estate Reserve comes from vines on alluvial soils matured in 500-litre oak casks with little toasting, around 19% new oak. Luke O'Cuinneagain plays around with the ferment to build a selection with different viscosities, and it goes through around 60% malo. This has an attractive nose that is focused and taut with fine mineralité . The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, impressive tension, quite primal on the finish and probably needs another 12 months in bottle.
