Glenelly Estate Reserve Red is a Stellenbosch blend built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, from the 2016 vintage. This wine shows the power and structure that South African reds can achieve: bold and fresh from the start, with an architecture that rewards patience and food.
The nose opens with blackberry, raspberry, and cassis, touched by subtle mint and spice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with ripe fruit and a gripping tannic frame. Syrah contributes peppercorn and clove, while Cabernet adds floral blackberry essences and darker notes. The tannins are fine-grained rather than coarse, and the oak sits in balance. The finish is long and spicy, food-friendly in the way structured reds tend to be. This wine drinks well now but has the backbone to age.

The 2016 Estate Reserve has an attractive nose of blackberry, raspberry, cassis and subtle mint aromas, focused and delineated and the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and predominantly red fruit laced with black pepper and clove. Quite detailed on the finish. Drink over the next decade.
