Navy strength gin emerged from the Royal Navy's need for a spirit that would ignite reliably even when stored in wooden barrels aboard ship, which is why these expressions are bottled at 57% ABV or higher. Hayman Distillers, based in England, produces this interpretation using a traditional London dry gin approach, with botanicals selected and blended to work at that elevated proof.

At navy strength, the spirit opens up with more grip and intensity than standard gin, the juniper and other botanicals become sharper and more assertive. This works beautifully in spirit-forward cocktails like the Negroni or Gimlet, where the extra backbone cuts through other ingredients without disappearing. It also stands up to sipping neat or with just ice and a tonic that's proportioned for the strength.
