Shiraz from South Australia's Eden Valley, where Henschke works, tends toward depth without heaviness, and the 2020 Tappa Pass bottling fits that mold. This is a single still red built in a more restrained register than the region's bigger, jammier examples, ripe and generous but reined in, with detail given as much weight as power.
The color is nearly opaque, and the wine opens on graphite and a peppery lift that frames aromas of dark chocolate and blackberry. There is real richness here, lush fruit underpinned by notes of undergrowth and dried herbs, yet it stays precise rather than blunt, carrying through to a long finish. Young, it rewards a generous splash of air, and it has the structure to hold and develop over a decade for those inclined to wait.

Opaque in color, this 2020 Shiraz Tappa Pass shows ripe, generous fruit, although still in that more understated Henschke style. It offers the best of both worlds with more luscious flavors underpinned by touches of undergrowth and dried herbs before a lengthy finish.
