Description
Grown in the hills of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, this is Sangiovese in its most serious guise, the grape the region calls Brunello and bottles on its own. Palazzone's 2021 carries the structure and aromatic reach that the appellation asks for, a wine built to reward patience but already showing its shape.
The register here is cool and fresh rather than heavy, with minty herbs and a lift of menthol playing against wild strawberry, gravel dust and a twist of shaved citrus. It moves across the palate in silken, composed fashion, ripe wild berry fruit backed by a crunchy mineral edge. Fine tannins leave a gentle stain, and notes of licorice, clove and sour citrus add a pleasantly bitter finish.
