Grown in the hills of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, this is Sangiovese in its most serious guise, the grape known here as Brunello and bottled on its own after extended aging. The 2021 vintage from Il Palazzone leans toward the cool, fresh end of the style rather than the sun-baked and jammy.
There is a menthol lift here, minty herbs and a whiff of citrus zest playing against wild strawberry and a dusty, gravelly minerality. On the palate it turns silken and calm, with ripe wild berry fruit and a crunchy mineral streak running through. Fine tannins leave a gentle grip on the finish, where licorice, clove, and a touch of sour citrus add a pleasant bitter edge.

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is cool-toned and fresh, mixing minty herbs and menthol with wild strawberries, gravel dust and shaved citrus. It is a pure pleasure on the palate, silken and serene, with ripe wild berry fruits and crunchy mineral tones. This 2021 leaves a gentle staining of fine tannins and licorice as hints of sour citrus and clove add a pleasantly bitter tinge. (Vinous, November 2025)
