Sangiovese grown at cool, breezy heights just south of Montalcino's walls, where a northwest exposure keeps the fruit fresh, gives this single-vineyard Brunello from Il Palazzone its particular lift. The Due Porte site sits high enough to slow ripening, and the warm 2021 vintage rounded it out without erasing that sense of elevation. This is Brunello made in a precise, fragrant register rather than a heavy one.
Expect incense, peppermint, rose and juniper drifting over raspberry and grenadine, with pine shavings and a mentholated coolness threading through crushed blackberry. There is real flesh here, the ripeness the vintage gave, but it is held upright by vibrant, mouthwatering acidity and a spine of fine, sandy tannins. Violet florals swirl through the middle, stony minerals tuck in underneath, and the finish is long, structured and cleanly balanced. Polished and pristine.

Just south of the town’s walls, the Due Porte vineyard is nestled at cool, breezy heights with a fresh, northwest exposure. It channels all the fragrance of place with accents of incense, peppermint, rose and juniper swirling around raspberry and grenadine. The warmth of 2021 conferred plenty of fleshy ripeness, but this is equally replete in vibrant, mouthwatering acidity. Stony minerals are tucked in. It retains an upright spine of fine, sandy-textured tannins. Polished, pristine and very precise. (Decanter, November 2025)
The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Le Due Porte is wonderfully lifted, airy and fresh, with a lovely blend of minty herbs and shavings of pine giving way to crushed blackberries and mentholated herbs. It soothes the senses with ripe red and blue fruits elevated by a core of cooling acidity as violet inner florals swirl throughout. A staining of primary concentration is framed by sweet tannins, finishing long, structured and beautifully balanced. (Vinous, November 2025)
