Alexander Valley sits in the warmer northern reaches of Sonoma County, a setting that suits Cabernet Sauvignon's need for ripeness while the region's diurnal swings help keep the fruit in balance. This 2014 bottling from Jordan Vineyard and Winery is a still red built in that mold, a California Cabernet that leans toward structure and poise rather than sheer power, in the vein that has long defined serious Cabernet from this corner of Sonoma.

The Cabernet harvest lasted almost six weeks in 2014, and it was a fabulous year for Petit Verdot, which adds a rich violet character to both the aroma and the taste. There are broader tannins than usual, but the blueberry and cassis flavours just shout delicious! Winemaker Rob Davis has gradually been decreasing the amount of American oak and increasing the amount of French oak, giving the structure more fineness. (Decanter, September 2019)
Tart and tangy in underlying acidity, this elegant red offers a mix of dried herb, tobacco leaf and red currant, showing subdued ripeness within a context of elongated polished tannin and well-integrated oak. (Wine Enthusiast, November 2018)
