Joseph Drouhin's 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin is a Village-level Pinot Noir from Burgundy's most celebrated red wine commune. Drouhin sources fruit from multiple growers across the appellation, blending vineyard perspectives into a single expression that aims for balance and purity rather than power.
The wine opens with dark berries and ripe strawberries, lifted by bright notes of violet and a whisper of clove spice. It's medium-bodied with a creamy, velvety texture that feels refined and restrained, the kind of wine that reveals itself slowly rather than demanding attention. Fine tannins provide structure without heaviness, and crisp acidity keeps the finish fresh and mineral. The fruit core, plums, raspberries, cherries, sits comfortably in the middle of the palate, framed by powdery tannins that add texture without grip. This is a wine that's already a pleasure to drink, though it will gain complexity and depth over the next two or three years.

Dark berries and ripe strawberries on the nose, but there’s also freshness and light spice, such as cloves. Violets, as well. Medium-bodied with a beautiful texture and finesse. So creamy and velvety, yet always reserved and pretty. Needs two or three years, but already a joy to taste. (James Suckling)
With grapes sourced from several growers, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a delightful, pure bouquet with perfumed red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is very pure with fine tannins, crisp acidity and gentle grip toward the refreshing finish. If I am being honest, I was expecting this to be so good!
Including some declassified premier cru fruit, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village exhibits notes of plums, raspberries and cherries, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and textural palate with a succulent core of fruit framed by powdery tannins.
