Description

Cool-climate Chardonnay has found a serious home in Oregon's Willamette Valley, where the grape leans toward precision rather than weight. This bottling from Ken Wright Cellars is a still white from the 2024 vintage, raised mostly in stainless steel with a smaller portion in French oak, a split that keeps the fruit fresh while lending just enough roundness.

The color is a bright, youthful yellow, and the nose runs toward flinty wet stone, lemon oil, and poached apple, with a whisper of sweet spice and a savory, briny earthiness underneath. On the palate it feels juicy and supple, silky in texture, carrying real depth and complexity without ever turning heavy, and finishing long. It is showing well now and built to hold and develop for years.

Displaying a bright, youthful yellow hue in the glass, the 2023 Chardonnay Willamette Valley was aged in a mix of two-thirds stainless and the rest French oak. It has a lovely nose of flinty wet stone, lemon oils, poached apple, delicate sweet spice, and brothy, salty earth. It has a lovely, juicy feel on the palate, with a refined and elegant, supple, silky texture, as well as a beautifully long finish. Offering real depth and complexity without being heavy, it’s going to drink well over the next 10 years. Avery impressive Chardonnay from Ken, it’s showing a lot of promise.
