Klein Constantia's 2023 Sauvignon Blanc comes from Constantia, the historic Cape region known for its bright acidity and herbaceous character. This is an unoaked expression built from fruit across multiple vineyard blocks, fermented wild to add textural complexity and depth.
The wine shows the linear, mineral precision you'd expect from this terroir, with a salty marine character threading through guava, blackcurrant, and grapefruit notes. Wild fermentation gives it a fuller texture than typical Sauvignon Blanc, while crisp, limey acidity keeps everything sharp and focused. You'll find green apple and crushed stone on the nose, then a palate with subtle peppery spice and genuine purity on the finish. The overall impression is one of balance and careful work, a wine that rewards attention and pairs well with seafood, fresh cheeses, and bright spring vegetables.

Fruit from 36 different vineyard plots goes into the making of this unusually complex, unoaked Cape Sauvignon, with the wild fermentation also playing its part in shaping the delectably full-textured guava, blackcurrant and pithy grapefruit, all lifted and shaped by coursing, limey acidity.
The Klein Constantia 2023 Constantia Sauvignon Blanc is extremely linear and sharp with a mineral quality the persists throughout. Winemaker Matthew Day says it took him a long while to understand what the soils mean to this wine. He works with ancient decomposed granite and reddish sandstone from Table Mountain and along the riverbeds. With 42 blocks to choose fruit from, the blending possibilities are enormous. He can pinpoint the best blocks each year. He starts blending after the wine has seen six months in tank, but he wants to extend that to nine months. A salty marine theme is dominant, but the wine also offers white fruits and light floral nuances. A tiny part of declassified wine from oak may work its way into this blend, but you would never know. If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc, as I as do, I enthusiastically direct your attention here.
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Estate comes from 42 different blocks. Mostly tank-aged, it underwent a 100% wild ferment with more non-Saccharomyces yeasts being used. Aged for six months on the lees, it offers green apple, touches of crushed stone and light grass clipping scents on the nose. The palate is well balanced with good weight, lovely, subtle peppery notes and admirable purity toward the finish. Winemaker Matt Day remarked how they put so much effort into this flagship Sauvignon Blanc, and it shows. Very fine.
