Sonoma Mountain gives Cabernet Sauvignon a particular cut, and this Estate bottling from Laurel Glen makes the case in a full-bodied, savory register. The 2018 is grown on the mountain's slopes above the Sonoma Valley floor, and it drinks as a wine built for the cellar. Young and tightly wound now, it rewards patience, and a few years in the bottle will open the door to everything it holds.
Inky and opaque in the glass, it lifts with woodsy aromatics of menthol, pine, cassis, and leather. The palate runs savory and layered, black cherry compote alongside smoked tea leaf, dried herbs, and turned soil, with lavender threading through. Tannins are ripe and fine, the texture supple, and the whole thing carries a bright, salivating energy that stretches the finish long. The purity here is the point, so decant if you open one early, or better, let it wait.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is bright, effusive and packed with energy. Readers will have to cellar the 2018 for at least a few years to get the full Laurel Glen experience, but that will be worth the wait. Today, the 2018 is so primary that opening a bottle would be a shame. The purity of the flavors is just compelling. Black cherry, lavender, pine, menthol and dried herbs linger on the vibrant, salivating finish. (Vinous, January 2022)
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Laurel Glen Vineyard Estate is an opaque and inky red, with lifted woodsy aromas of menthol, pine, cassis, and leather. This full-bodied red is ripe with good freshness, and has ripe, fine tannins as well as a supple texture. Its savory profile continues on the palate with black cherry compote, smoked tea leaf, and turned soil. Long on the palate, this is a nice way to showcase the savory, woodsy nature of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink 2024-2040. (Jeb Dunnuck, July 2023)
