Description

Louis Latour's 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a white Burgundy built on Chardonnay grown in one of the region's most storied vineyard sites. This is a full-bodied expression with serious presence and complexity that rewards patience as it opens.

The wine announces itself with honeysuckle, dried stone fruit, and white flowers, moving into cooked apple, cream, and lemon on the palate. There's a ripeness to it, tropical notes of mango and peach, yet the wine maintains surprising elegance and freshness despite its generous body. White Burgundy of this caliber shows oak restraint and mineral tension underneath its richness. Drink it now if you prefer it open and giving, or cellar it to let the structure tighten further and the flavors settle into deeper harmony.

James Suckling

Open and aromatic with honeysuckle flowers, dried apples and mangoes, as well as white peaches and stone. Full-bodied, this grows slowly on the palate with an intense, powerful finish. Lots of cream, cooked apples, lemons and light oak at the very end. Tight and right. Try after 2023. (James Suckling)

Despite the heat of the vintage and serious ripeness (14.5% alcohol), this is surprisingly elegant and nuanced. There is a pleasant lemony accent to the ripe tropical flavors tinged with hints of cream, butter, and spice. On the palate, the wine is dense but not lacking in freshness. Pleasant now, this will age well. (Decanter)

Aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers and toasted bread introduce the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and round wine that's open-knit and gourmand. Demonstrative and giving, it's already accessible.
