White Hermitage is one of the northern Rhône's quieter statements, a blend built on Marsanne (often with a measure of Roussanne) that trades aromatic flash for weight and length. This 2022 comes from Marc Sorrel, working on the hill of Hermitage itself, and it sits firmly in the serious, age-worthy camp of the style rather than the easygoing one.
The nose runs toward baked lemon and white peach, with quince peel, blanched almond, bergamot and a lift of jasmine and honeysuckle over a wet-stone edge. It's full-bodied and richly concentrated, yet it never feels heavy: there's a vivid citrus core threaded with wild herbs, real texture and intensity through the middle, and a saline echo that carries the finish on for a long time. Refined and harmonious now, with the structure to reward patience.

A remarkable Hermitage white, dense, voluptuous, suave and impeccably balanced. The nose offers baking lemons, white peaches, quince peels, blanched almonds, bergamot and delicate spices. Medium-bodied with such patina. It\'s refined, harmonious, balanced and effortless. There is a vivid core of baked lemons at the center mingling with wild herbs. It\'s vibrant, textural and intense on the mid-palate. Long, vibrant finish that lasts for minutes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
Coming in at the same high-quality level as the preceding vintage, the 2022 Hermitage Blanc is outstanding. Pronounced lemon flesh, jasmine, yellow apple, honeysuckle and wet stone touches are all brought forward. Full-bodied and richly concentrated yet totally fresh, the standout 2022 clocks out with a resonant echo on the saline finale. (Vinous)
