White Hermitage is a rare thing, a Marsanne-driven wine from the northern Rhône built for the long haul, and this bottling from Marc Sorrel represents its grander end. Les Rocoules is a named parcel within the Hermitage hill, and the 2022 is the more powerful of Sorrel's two whites, made without fining or filtration and aged eighteen months in oak, with malolactic fermentation seen through to completion. At 15.8% alcohol and just 1,350 bottles, it is a low-production wine that wears its scale openly.
Expect opulence rather than restraint. The nose leans old-school and almost Baroque, with dried mango, dried pear, candied pineapple, ripe melon, white peach and apricot layered against cedar, linden blossom and jasmine. There is a touch of hay and barley sugar, and some confit character that reads as gloriously mature already. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated, the acidity carrying the richness in balance, closing on a saline, generous finish that holds for well over a minute. This favors grandeur over finesse, and it has the structure to age at length.

The 2022 Hermitage Blanc Les Rocoules is a powerhouse, commanding attention with its opulence and intensity. Unlike the more delicate Hermitage Blanc from the same vintage, the Hermitage Blanc Les Rocoules goes all-in with a flamboyant display of tropical richness. Bursting with candied pineapple, ripe melon, white peach, apricot, zesty lemon flesh and golden apple notes, the 2022 offers a kaleidoscope of rich fruit flavors. These are intricately layered with cedar, linden blossom and jasmine scents that add more aromatic complexity. On the palate, the 2022 is unapologetically bold, embracing its richness with a remarkable balance, delivering a saline, generous finish that lingers well beyond a minute. There’s no doubt that this will age spectacularly. 15.8% alcohol, 1,350 bottles produced. (Vinous)
Very old school, almost Baroque nose, with dried mango and dried pear. Full-bodied, powerful and concentrated, the acidity is well balanced, the finish very long. A touch of hay and barley sugar, there are already some quite mature confit aromas. The alcohol feels slightly raised, but this is nonetheless an impressive Hermitage, one that favours grandeur over finesse. Malolactic completed, no fining and no filtration, then 18 months in oak.
