Moon Mountain District sits in the hills above Sonoma Valley, elevated country that tends to give Cabernet Sauvignon a firmer, more concentrated frame than the valley floor. This 2022 from Marine Layer Wines is a mountain-grown Cabernet, and it reflects that upbringing: dense, structured, built on ripe fruit rather than restraint.
Expect a powerful pour. Black cherry and plum lead, wrapped in mocha and a note of new leather that deepens as the wine opens. The texture is plush and full, more explosive than polished, with sage, menthel, licorice, and tobacco layering into a long, opulent finish. For a vintage that was not easy in these hills, it delivers well beyond expectation.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, dense wine. Black cherry fruit, plum, mocha and new leather flesh out beautifully in the glass. Plush, deep and explosive, the 2022 seriously overdelivers. Sage, menthol, licorice and tobacco inform the plush, opulent finish. This is very nicely done, especially in a year that was so challenging on Moon Mountain. (Vinous, January 2026)
