Description

Masciarelli's 2020 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from the San Martino Rosso vineyard is a riserva-level expression of Abruzzo's signature red varietal. The wine spent over a year in barriques, a deliberate aging that shapes its structure and depth.

The color is dark and impenetrable, the bouquet darkly floral with woodland character, crushed stone, ashy minerality, dried black cherry, and musk layered beneath. On the palate, ripe red and blue fruits arrive with peppery spice and violet florals threading through. The wine feels round and supple despite its weight; firm, chiseled tannins provide youthful tension and architectural grip without heaviness. There's a pleasant chewiness to the finish, staining and long, the edgy tannins keeping everything moving forward rather than settling. This is a wine with real presence and momentum.

The 2020 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva San Martino Rosso is darkly floral with a woodland-inspired bouquet that blends flowery underbrush with crushed ashen stones and dried black cherries. It's round and supple with ripe red and blue fruit complicated by a tinge of pepper. Violet inner florals swirl throughout. This tapers off with a pleasantly chewy sensation, long and staining. Edgy tannins add youthful tension without slowing the 2020's momentum.

The impenetrable grain of the colour introduces an equally dense nose in which notes of berries, musk and memories of spice emerge one after the other. The great power of the sip is held at bay by tannins, chiselled by more than a year's ageing in barriques.
