The 2021 Barolo Ascheri is rich and complex right out of the glass. A Barolo of structure, the 2021 shows off layers of dark fruit intermingled with graphite, camphor, sage, menthol and licorice. All this strapping young Barolo needs is time. It's a fine effort for this sector of La Morra. (Vinous)
The Matteo Ascheri 2021 Barolo Ascheri comes from a site with marl clay and limestone soils in the village of La Morra. This is a savory expression with dark fruit, tea leaf and tobacco. The delivery is quite powerful, and I would describe this wine as having more width than it has vertical intensity. It offers a broad approach and ends with a touch of sweet blackberry. The Ascheri sub-zone is situated on the western side of La Morra, where there’s a much lower density of vineyards compared to the eastern sector. Vinification follows a classic approach: two weeks of fermentation then ageing in Slavonian barrels. The nose fascinates with vivid notes of blueberries, dried roses and cloves; the mouth is rich in flavour, acidity and freshness. A harmonious Barolo, thanks to the successful balance between tannic presence and softness. (Decanter, July 2025)
